Well - it's been announced - David Tennant is leaving the Tardis - and we know who the next Doctor is.
The 2008 Christmas Special was called "The Next Doctor".
That guy in the photo is the doctor. No - not him, the one next to him (not the Cyberman either).
But he's not really the next doctor. I won't spoil the story for you if you havent seen it (hasnt been aired down here yet) but he's not the very next doctor. That honour goes to some-one else.
There were heaps of people who were considered. We could have had a black docotor (Paterson Joseph) - he was apparently very close to getting the role. There was also a lot of talk about James Nesbitt who is a brilliant actor (have you seen Jekyll?) but would have made a very different Doctor. There was even talk of Catherine Zeta Jones becoming the first female doctor (probably not very seriously).
But fear not - it wasn't any of them.
It was...
Someone I've never heard of.
A guy called Matt Smith.
He's going to be the youngest Dr ever.
He'll be getting the keys to the Tardis on the next Christmas special - or so the story goes at the moment.
Stay tuned to see if he has what it takes to take over from the awesome Tenant.

It's back on!
The Dakar Rally has started.
The Dakar has been one of my favorite events of the last few years (since I discovered it) and every day it was on, I rush home to watch the daily recap on SBS at 6:00.
2 weeks of racing through Africa to Dakar. Bikes, Trucks, and Cars (4x4s and 2wd buggies).
It's fantastic. Brilliant way to start a new year.
But last year it was canceled. Everyone was there at the start line - and the organizers pulled the plug because of safety concerns regarding raiders in some of the areas they were travelling through.
The first year in 28 that the Dakar did not run.
This year it's back - but it feels like it's missing it's soul.
It's not in Africa anymore. They've pulled out and relocated to South America.
It's still called the Dakar Rally - even though it doesnt go to Dakar anymore. It's in Argentina and Chile now.
It's still great to watch - but it is definatly missing some of the magic.

Well - the roof is over half painted now. The section facing the road, and half of one side have yet to be painted - but the rest has a first coat done.
Dad and I spent most of Saturday on the roof painting. Unfourtuantly, Dad didn't know how to work my camera, so I don't have any proof I was up there, other than a pair of very sun-burnt arms.
If the weather holds, next Saturday we'll be back up there finishing it off. And I'll definatly be wearing long sleaves this time...

Well - it's another year. That still hasn't sunk in. Got to get used to writing '09' now.
Another thing that hasn't sunk in is that we're leaving for Europe in just over 2 weeks time!
It still doesnt feel real. Still got heaps to organize.
Anyway - Pinch and a Punch and all that.
Mum, Dad, and Emma have left my place now. The grand plan to paint the roof was hampered by the wind, which threatened to blow Dad off the roof.
He did manage to clean and treat the rusty parts - so it's ready to paint now.
And for those who know that I'm not good with heights, no I didn't actually get on the roof. The preperation was a one-man job (we didn't have the stuff for two people to do it at once) but I was planning to get up there when we started painting, it just didn't happen yet. I'll be up there when it's time to paint. As long as someone else can paint the high end of the house. Not sure I can bring myself to do that.
Even if the painting was a non-event, it was great having my family here for a few days.
We saw the New Year in watching Dad's 'By Any Means' DVD he got for Christmas and playing Star Wars Trivia Pursuit, which I won (to no-one's suprise). We paused for a while to watch the fireworks from my window (we could see most of them). Not a terribly exciting New Years - but a nice one.

Merry Christmas!
Hope you had a good time. Mine was pretty awesome.
After work on Christmas Eve, I went home to my parents place, and we did presents and things on Christmas morning – and then headed down south to Hobart to spend Christmas lunch with Aunt Libby’s family and Grandma and Pete. Crayfish, Turkey, water fights – fantastic!
From here we went futher south to Taranna and stayed with Grandma and Grandpa (Dad’s parents) for a couple of days, and had another family get-together on Boxing Day.
Once again it was great. Lots more fantastic food – as well as just catching up with family and sleeping lots. Almost the perfect way to spend Christmas. Only thing better would be if we were camping.
I got some pretty good pressies. A suitcase for our trip to England, and a small carry-on backpack. The backpack is designed to carry laptops – so it’s perfect for me.
Grandma (Mum’s Mum) couldn’t decide what to get me for Chistmas, so she bought me some lego! That’s insanely awesome. I haven’t been given Lego for years! I’ve bought some myself, but it’s cool to actually be given some again – even if people think that a 24yr old bloke should have out-grown it.
Neptune had a pretty good Christmas too.
He got a scratching post with an elastic ball to play with. He also got a small mouse from Emma that he loves – but seems to have lost at the moment.
Mum, Dad, and Emma are staying at my house for a couple of days now – so stay tuned for some more posts.
