Bags are packedjawaproSat 17/01/2009 10:58 PM
Well - my bags are just about packed. Neptune has been fed. My house is tidy.
It's just about time to leave.
I'm just waiting for my sister to ring me to say she's ready to be picked up from the wedding. Hang on - just got an SMS while I wrote that. Tis her indeed.
Once I collect her - we're heading to my parents place so Emma can pack (she hasnt had a chance yet!) and then heading to the airport early tomorrow morning.
Insane - but it's finally happening.
Update you when I get a chance!
Note - the Tassie Devil in the photo is out mascott for the trip.

Andrew and Tiani's WeddingjawaproSat 17/01/2009 10:54 PM
One of my mates, Andrew, got married today. He's Turkey's older brother (for those of you who are regulars here).
He married Tiani, who happens to be my sister's best friend.
We all went to the wedding itself, and Emma is at the reception being a Maid of Honour.
Congrats to Andrew and Tiani - and all the best for the future!
^ Now that's a wedding car!

Well - on Saturday we painted the second coat on my roof. Dad came through, and we spent the day on the roof - but this time we wore long sleaves, so no sun-burn.
Dad even managed to get a photo of me this time to prove I got up there. Probably won't happen again in a hurry.
In other news, it's only a matter of days before I leave on the Great Europe Adventure with my sister. Did a dry run of packing my bag tonight. Should be able to fit everything in and still be under the weight limit. Well - my bag will be anyway :)
Two of my mates have agreed to move into my place while I'm away to keep an eye on it and feed Neptune etc. Tim and Tom will be the guardians of my house while I'm overseas. Thanks guys!
It's almost 10 at night, and I still have my fans going because it's so warm. I'm really looking forward to getting to Europe where it will actually be cold!

Windows 7 - the BetajawaproMon 12/01/2009 09:51 PM
Well - I haven't had a chance to try it myself because I've been busy prepping for the trip - but Microsoft has released the Beta for Windows 7.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx
From what I HAVE heard, it's very stable for a beta - and very good too.
So if you're a die-hard geek - go and give it a whirl. You'd need a throw-away computer or a virtual machine (VMWare - for the win!) but it would be well worth checking out.
Even for Linux freaks (Turkey!) - when else are you going to get to try it legally for free?
The beta expires on a certain date, and will apparently lock you out. My mate at work is using it as his main OS and is loving it so far. Lots of the good points of Vista, but without a lot of the bad points. It's a lot less system intensive apparently.
Anyway - just making sure you all know about it. The Beta has a limited number of downloads - so hurry before you miss out.

FreeView - what is it?jawaproMon 12/01/2009 09:45 PM
For anyone who watches any local TV, you'll probably have seen ads for a thing called FreeView. Even I've seen it, and I don't watch much local stuff.
The ads waffle on about 15 new free channels - and how it's going to be great.
Well - they're full of it.
The 15 channels are as follows.
The standard 5 (WIN, SC, SBS, ABC, and TDT).
The HD version of the standard 5 (normally the same shows, just higher quality images etc)
An extra station for each.
Ok - so we really only have 5 new stations, as the HD ones are essentially the same as the standard (SD) ones. ABC looks like theirs may be different - but that remains to be seen.
Of those 5, ABC2 already exists. TDT's second is going to be an all-day sports channel, and SBSs is going to be all day news. So all we're waiting for is SC and WIN.
So much for 15 brand new stations.
Basically it's an attempt to encourage people to buy digital TVs/Set Top Boxes so they can close down the analouge stations - and at the same time, prevent people going to Pay TV by making it look like they'll get lots of extra channels for free.
I'd been planning to blog about it anyway - but I saw this story on theage.com.au which did a good job of summing it all up - so head over there and give it a read.
