Cradle MountainjawaproTue 06/04/2010 06:02 PM
Being the Easter long weekend, we decided to do the touristy thing and head up Cradle Mountain.
If you are thinking of famous places in Tasmania, Cradle Mountain is probably near the top of the list - but it’s just about the only part of Tassie (apart from the South West wilderness) that Emma (my sister) and I haven’t been too.
So my parents decided to fix that - and took us to Cradle Mountain. We also dragged Klutz along for the trip - just cause we could.
I won’t bore you with a million photos as you’ve all seen it before - but it is a very pretty place and was nicely cool.
Thanks for the trip guys!

Seriously Jealous...jawaproFri 02/04/2010 06:10 PM
Tim’s got his new wheels on his Maverick. Man she looks good. Could do with a lift if you ask me, but Tim’s not so keen on that idea.
He and Tom are off down the west coast for a couple of days to test it out. I so wish I could have gone too - but Oscar still needs a window before I take him far, and it takes me so long to get organized that I couldn’t have made it even as a passenger (Tim only found out about the trip a few hours before). It takes me ages to get ready to go anywhere - a trip down the west coast needs more than a couple of hours. I’d also had plans with the family over Easter which would have been wrecked if I’d gone with Tim. So I ended up just helping him prepare for the trip.
So I’m still here feeling jealous. Next time I’m in - as long as I get a bit more warning!
^ Checking the tyres clear on full articulation. They don’t - but Tim thinks it’s close enough.

Maverick and Concert...jawaproSun 28/03/2010 06:03 PM
Check this beast out!
Tim’s just bought himself a Ford Maverick (Nissan Patrol with Ford badges). It’s practically identical to Dad’s Maverick other than the fact that more of it’s paint is peeling and it’s got non-working AC (Dad’s doesn’t even pretend to have AC).
It might be a little rough, but it’ll be awesome offroad. Should be more capable out of the box than my Pajero. And Tim wants to put these tyres on it!
Poor old Oscar will be left for dead when Tim’s got these on! That’s assuming he can make them fit.
Looks like I’ll be needing bigger wheels too (I was planning on it eventually).
In other news - Saturday night was the Breath of Life music festival thingo. Not really sure what it is – but it was just down the road from my place (I could hear the music if I had my windows open) and had quite a nice line-up of artists. I went along for a couple of hours where some big name country singers were playing.
Troy Cassar-daley, Beccy Cole, and Kasey Chambers! That’s an awesome lineup for Tassie! Jimmy Barnes was billed as the major act and was the last to play – but I didn’t hang around for that. I just went for the country guys.
Troy Cassar-daley.
And his wife.
And some bloke called Diesel.
Kasey Chambers
And her husband.
And Beccy Cole.
I’m not normally the sort of guy who goes to concert - but it was quite fun.
And to wrap off such a good day - a game of Stalker multiplayer with Tom, Tim, and Jim.

Church Camp and Lego expojawaproTue 23/03/2010 05:56 PM
This weekend just gone I was down in almost Hobart for our annual church camp. As mostly always, it was a heap of fun.
This year Emma and Tiani organized a play in place of the normal triva quiz, and kept us entertained.
The photo's not brilliant, but the play was.
In other news - although I was almost in Hobart for the weekend, I was also actually supposed to be IN Hobart. You see, this was also the weekend for the Model Makes and Collectors exhibition. And some of the local Lego fans had decided that we should have a lego display at the exhibit. I had been asked to come down and bring some of my stuff - but as it conflicted with the camp, I couldn’t really do both.
That said, I did manage to get down there for a look around. Lots of model trains and helicopters and other awesome stuff that would have been reason enough to go down - but there was also a nice collection of Lego there. Nothing compared to BrickVention - but still pretty cool.
And I finally got to see the Spirit of Tasmania model in the flesh.. well brick.
After seeing photos of it last year (it’s still my wallpaper at work) and talking to it’s creator (Aaron) at Brickvention, I was very happy to finally see it for myself.
I took Turkeybeard down with me as his camera leaves mine in the dust. He got some nice photos - I’ve just left them on the other laptop - doh!
The Spirit has been improved since the photos from Brickvention 2 years ago too! The front now opens.
Some of Aaron’s custom UFOs and train models.
Francis’s light-up ferry (not as large as the Spirit but still very impressive).
Some more ships and things.
Forgotten this guys name, but he brought the obligatory Star Wars collection.
And this table had a number of classic sets on it - including this one which I also own. Very awesome holiday house and caravan. Not quite as faded as mine either, although it is missing some trees. I think this set was Brent’s but I’m not sure.
By the sounds of it, the Tassie Lego community may get off the ground again and form an actual club. There’s talk of an all lego event sometime later in the year. Look forward to the developments…

Who in their right mind would decide to go and watch a movie on the day that the newest Command and Conquer was released???
Sometimes having friends and a social life can be annoying....
