I might not have posted much in a while – but I have been busy.
After the shed was up – my first order of business was to drag all the random stuff out from under the house and put it in the shed.
Seems a little wrong to fill the shed up straight away – but there was method in my madness.
Now that the underhouse area was clear – I could build a shelf/deck thing.
Well a couple of nights with the saw bench and some quality time with my impact driver – and they’re done!
Now I can move the random stuff back under the house – but this time it’ll be sorted and clean!
As storage space goes – it’s far more useful now.
And probably my most successful DIY project too.

I’ve done some waterproofing on the Maverick and would like to take it from a drive down to a river and see how it goes - says Chris
It’ll only be a short drive - an hour or so - he says.
So I tag along is Oscar.
We arrived at the bridge at around 3pm. Chris assures me the river normally goes under the bridge, not over it. We’ve had a lot of rain lately.
Thus begins the trip itself. Chris had been here a while ago and was sure we wouldn’t have much trouble. A few water-holes, but nothing too serious.

Oscar doesn’t have very big wheels - so he kept getting bridged in the ruts. Chris’s winch got a work-out.
It wasn’t entirely one-sided though - Chris would tow me out - and then use me as a anchor to tow himself out.
And again...
And again...
Chris was stuck in this hole, so I charged past him on another track. I didn’t make it either - but that allowed him to winch himself out from me - and then winch me out later.
And then it got dark (it does that).
In the end, Chris was bogged facing me - while I was bridged on a rut. He couldn’t get out backwards, and driving forwards wasn’t an option with me in the way.
And then his alternator packed up from all the winching.
In the end I broke out the old trusty turfer (hand-winch) and pulled myself out backwards. Oscar was then able to storm through another track (with Chris in the wheel) with only almost falling over sideways (not quite) and then the Maverick was able to follow.
The Maverick towed me at least once more - but we finally made it out to the highway - but before we got back to Devonport, the Maverick’s clutch had given out entirely (no drive at all) so Oscar had to tow him home.
I finally arrived home at 11:30pm. So much for a short trip.
A few electrical niggles in Oscar and he seems to have doubled his fuel consumption - but he got off lightly. Chris needs a new clutch and alternator (at the least).
All in all - a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Got home from work today and turned my computer on.
BANG!
No more computer.
Hmm - it’s possible this was caused by having the computer switched off for the weekend and the dampness in the room (hey, it’s Winter). Perhaps the extra power cost would have saved Phaeton (my PC)?
Anyway - I fount a spare power supply (PSU to us geeks) and hooked it up without much enthusiasm. Normally when this sort of thing has happened to me, the motherboard has been toast and therefore a lost cause.
But lo and behold, when hooked up to an external PSU life support system - Phaeton struggled back into life.
Well blow me down - the motherboard survived. So I swapped PSUs and Phaeton is whirring away again now as I type this.
Still - he’s approaching 5 and a half years old - which is quite ancient in computer terms. I’ve been planning to replace him for a while now (about 3 years!) - so maybe this should be the catalyst...

It's been over a year in the making - but I finally have a shed!

There was a lot more footage of the tractor work and digging the holes etc (oh, and fixing the tractor!) - but it all looked pretty much the same so I edited most of it out.

This weekend I headed down south to Hobart for a Lego Train show. It was far smaller than the other shows I’d been to - but was fun all the same.

My table - two of the newer trains and a random collection of other stuff.
The battery truck - this is where all the dead AAAs went - this was the result of two days running three trains (mine and Brendon’s). Need to come up with a better system...
