Ok - I fully expect to be bagged out about this - but I just bought myself a boxset of Thomas the Tank Engine DVDs.

My awesome sister spied them on a Chickenfeed ad, and sent me an SMS, so I called in on my way home.

$20 gets you all 5 classic seasons. That’s awesome value.

Not only did I love these when I was a kid, they are examples of extremely well done model railways. From the point of view of a model train fan, these can take on a whole different level.

Unfortunately they come in rather ugly cases - but I guess that’s what you get with kids dvds. At least there’s a box to hide them.

Thanks again for letting me know Em!

Hooray! Next time I'm in Tassie (sometime just after Christmas) I'll have to watch some with you!

Rob,

I read this and totally understood.  Jana read this, and here first response was, "Thomas!  What?"  You have to understand her perspective:  Mara Kate watches Thomas & Friends.

Hope all is well with you.

The DVDs actually say "Thomas and Friends" too - but the original show was "Thomas the Tank Engine And Friends" and generally shortened to "Thomas the Tank Engine".

The American version was different anyway - with different narrators, slightly different dialouge, and I believe the inclusion of Shining Time Station. I've never seen STS, but it was apparently a live action show that was wrapped around episodes of Thomas. In Britain and Australia, we just had Thomas.
