Settlement Pushed-Back

Why cant things ever be simple.

Settlement for my house was supposed to be Monday (Settlement = the house is mine). The solicitors said everything was going well.

On Tuesday, I'd contacted my current Rental guys, and told them I'd be moving out on the 12th. I was planning to move out on the 5th, but that would give me time to clean up the unit before I hand the keys back.

Unfourtuantly I got an email from the solicitors today saying there had been a mess-up.

They thought they had given the bank some paperwork, but the bank didnt think so.

The 2 offices (bank and solicitor) are literally next door to each other (seriously!) so you'd think they'd do a better job of communicating.

They gave the bank the paperwork today, but that meant the settlement couldnt happen yet. In fact, it would probably happen on the 11th.

That means I have less than a day to move out, clean up the unit, get the carpets cleaned professionally (its required in the lease) and get the keys back to the Rental guys before they shut at midday.

Not a good thought.

So after running around like a chookless head, I finally managed to talk the Rental people into letting me stay 2 extra weeks. That at least gives me some breathing room (though there isnt even any gareetee the settlement will be the 11th).

Now I just have to tidy the place up, because the Rental people want to show someone through the unit tomorrow. I'm not leaving for a few weeks yet and they are already trying to replace me.

Sounds crazy! Glad you have those 2 weeks, though it's annoying to have to clean up already for new renters to tour the place.... and now you're due to move on the day after ANZAC day, also my due date! Which just goes to show how close d-day is now.

P.S. I hope you always have a chookless head. The idea of the opposite (a chook-ful head?!) is rather alarming. :)

Oh dear. Sounds very nasty. I know what you're going through. The place we're living in is rented, and the owner is selling it. Our lease ends in August, and they've already had the sign up for ages. It seems like we're always having inspections. We have one about every 2.5 weeks, which means we have to have a big cleanup about once every 2 weeks.
