The Final Leg

The final leg – we’re on our way home.

Thursday was mostly spent with Mike and Gabs and family. Klutz had trundled off to Sale to visit his grandparents and family (which he otherwise probably wouldn’t have seen again for years) and returned in time for lunch (although not morning tea as he’d promised).

We hung out at Ben and Becs for a while longer – and Mike took me shopping to Kmart and a few other shops in Traralgon – where I scored a cheap copy of Monkey Island 3.

A large part of my reason for wanting to do this trip was to catch up with my friends. All three of my closest friends (Trojen, Klutz, and Mike) had moved interstate during the year – so this trip was a great chance to catch up with them all. And yes, for anyone who didnt know already - Mike may be a lot younger than me - but I still count him as one of my best mates.

We eventually managed to leave Ben and Becs (and Mike and Gabs) – it was difficult cause it was so enjoyable catching up with them again.

We took the short drive to Pakenham – with the GPS getting slightly more lost than we did.

We found the caravan park where Klutz’s parents had pre-booked us a caravan for the night, and then went out to find some tea. We had been planning to go out tonight to avoid having to cook and clean and things – so we could get away early in the morning.

I was quite temped to try Red Rooster – as it’s a chain I haven’t seen in Tassie – but they are everywhere up here. But just to be stupid – we decided to get drinks from Maccas and more chicken and sides from KFC too. We almost got cookies for Subway and Onion Rings from Hungry Jacks too – but Klutz dosnt like Onion Rings, and we couldn’t be bothered. Good thing too – it was more than we needed as it was (Klutz went overboard with the chicken at KFC while I was getting the drinks).

We went back to the caravan, and got some sleep (after Klutz tried to walk through the end of the caravan – I don’t think he realized how short it was).

In the morning my phone alarm went off at 4:25, followed shortly by Kltuz’s at 4:30. Unfourtuantly it wasn’t enough to wake him up, but when it was thrown at him it had the desired effect.

We were getting up early to make sure we’d be at the boat in time. I don’t think Klutz is used to being up that early very often.

The drive to the boat was pretty easy – considering it was one of the things that had me most worried about the trip.

We stopped for some breakfast opposite the boat dock - which was quite nice, and blooming huge, but took a while to be cooked - so we were starting to get anxious about getting in line for the boat - but we made it in time.

As a walk-on passenger – I was able to board early, while Klutz drove the Shopping Trolley onto the boat.

Once again, I got a deluxe cabin for the cruise – and we spent most of our time in there. We watched a couple of tv shows, and Klutz attempted to knock himself unconscious by trying to force his head through the window to get a better view. He slept for a few hours after that to recover.

And then finally – we were back in Tassie, and I was back in my unit and in front of my beloved computer. Now I have to get ready for normal life again – work, church, etc. Klutz is going to stay at my parents place for a while as he gets himself sorted out ready for uni.

The geeks are back home!

Welcome home! I'm glad you had a good time catching up with friends and family; it's wonderful to connect with those we care about and miss. And I'm happy that you two safely survived your travels across desert and ocean back home... even with the detour and then the car trouble! We're all looking forward to welcoming Klutz to Tassie too. See you round.
