Axon LAN

Friday night was the last Axon LAN for the year. And it was a great LAN too. Lots of game play.

We ended up with about 75 people there I think. Hopfully that was enough for the LAN to break even on costs.

We played a lot of DOTA and Savage. I finally managed to win a game of Savage. The first time ever that I wasnt on the losing team!

I also had a match of Starcraft - but alas, we were up against a player who plays online - and the other 3 of us have rarely ever played the game, so we were somewhat out of our league.

The lucky door prize was a Nintentdo Wii - donated by Play-By-Wire, and was drawn by a process of elimination. They started with everyone's name, and a computer script randomly eliminated everyone (one every 2 minutes) until there was only one - and he got the Wii. Took over 2 hours to complete.
It was starting to look like I might get a Wii to go with my Xbox - as I made it to the final three - but then my name was pulled.

This LAN was on a Friday night - instead of the normal Saturday night - which suits me much better. I had to rush there after work, but I was able to stay all night. Normally on a Saturday night I go home so I can get some sleep before Church on Sunday - but this time I played right through - did some shopping in Launceston in the morning, and then went back home to get some sleep.

Still a little tired after all that though.

And as a bonus - Tom (Nifen) has finally returned from Europe. So the LAN was a great chance to catch up again.

Tom has been living in England - and brought me back a Cyberman - which was especially cool. Not sure I want to open the packet though.

Well there you go, you and I were at a LAN on the same day. Its a pity mine was just a little bit smaller than your's though, seeing I was at a 5 (max, normally 4) person LAN. It was still good though, I enjoyed it. And we played some quality games like WinBolo, which is very very very good. You should play it. Awesome gameplay, and yet so simple.

BTW, you don't happen to know of any similar LAN's in Hobart do you? I haven't found any, but that isn't to say I've looked very hard either. And I also find it fascinating to see the sheer lack of lappies that make it along. I can definitley understand that!

Anyway, installing Linux beckons, so I will go. Cya round.

There's one called Dark Media that's supposed to be pretty huge in Hobart.

I'm planning to go down sometime to check it out.

Sometimes the smaller LANs can be more fun though - if you can get everyone playing the same game. And it's far more fun to defeat someone you know than some random person you've never met before.

But the large LANs have their place too. Especially if you're a leecher.

When you go, I'll come along too. I'd be interested to go and see what one's like. Mind you, I think I need to upgrade my computer a little first. Its getting a little on the laggy side for a few things. Mind you, I don't think the parents understand that but oh well, it will be a tough sell. They don't want me to touch it.

I'm assuming "LittleSis" is Robs sister?

Thank's LittleSis. Kind of nice to be back, bit strange though, over a week of jet lag. and lack of friends in launceston, But managing to find a few behind rocks and sometimes under them.
