50 years ago - a Nissan Patrol G60 became the first vehicle to cross the Simpson Desert.

Last year a group of my fellow G60 nutters did a crossing of their own to celebrate - and now Nissan has done an official reenactment.

The original G60 was driven by Reg Sprigg and carried his family across the desert. His children returned for the reenactment and crossed the desert again.

Sadly the original G60 could not be found (they tried) so a similar shorty G60 was found (in St Helens!). Sure this particular truck isn't quite 50 yet - but it's still very similar to the original.

Wait, that's not the St Helens vehicle you were considering buying a little while back, was it?

Actually it is - it was a very good condition original G60. Originally they wanted around $3,000 (which it would have been worth) - but it dropped and sold to Nissan for about $1,500. Any lower and I would have been sorely tempted - even if it is a shorty and mine are all mids.
