The end of things...

Summer is over! And it's about time!

Last night was actually cold! I was in heaven! Bring on the coolness!

In other news, Summer went out with a bang. Not only do I hate it, it hates me. Threw in an electrical storm on Friday night. The lightning was very close, and it fried my awesome cisco adsl router. Just what I didn't need when I was saving up for a UHF! I haven't managed to scrounge a working router (thanks Tim, but yours wont work) so I'm off to buy one tomorrow I guess. Doh!

Thankfully I have a work laptop with a next-g connection now. Won't go completely crazy. Its amazing how odd it feels when you lose your connection. I can go camping and not care - but when I'm at home it feels wrong if it's not there.

---- UPDATE ---

Turns out I was a little hastly in bagging Tim's modem. After working out some issues related to static IPs, I finally got it going - so I'm back on the net. I still need to get a modem - but it's not so urgent.

I suppose it's the knowledge that when you're camping, a net connection isn't supposed to be there. At home, it should be there, so it upsets the normalness of home if it isn't.

And yes, I agree with D.O.'s comments. When you're up the bush you dont miss it because it's not supposed to be there. But at home... well it feels about as odd as it does when the power or water is out.

Hello, this is Tom's Mum and I'm quite disappointed not to get a mention in your news.  I was there when it happened! (the lightning strike).  I guess the trauma of losing your internet totally erased your excitement at having your Auntie Annie to stay.  I bet Neptune remembers my visit... he got quite a shock to find his bedroom door closed I think.
