Well - busy night. First had to do some judging for the ACE Student Convention, and then build myself a Robin Hood Castle, ready for the animation.

And then I took a heap of photos and quickly put it together into a animation test. Man I suck at this - but ah well. Hopefully I'll get much better frame rates by the time I do it for real.

Check it out here media/lego_test1.wmv.

And in case you're wondering why I'm doing this - read the previous post.

Yes - 2 min is the maximum I can do apparently.

Thats a fair bit of animation - but the thing is, they want it to tell the same story as my blog post - so I'm going to have to make a script and a voice over and things - just like with my uni assignment.

So I'm going to be pushed for time to complete it - and pushed for time to tell the story.

Not good :(

how about talking the story through normanly ? or putting it into point form?

if its normaly talked through, you can speed up the voice, so it all fits in.

or point form you can then say whats happening in small chunks.

Also, maybe video sped up a bit, so its little faster to fit the 2 minutes.
:)

I guess we won't be expecting some CGI then?

Another couple of scenes completed tonight - as well as a backdrop, castle, and army (thanks Trojen for leaving your lego at my place!).

I have also bought some more soldiers to use as the bad guys, and they are being express posted to me tomorrow.

And I had sort of played around with Toms idea already.

My voice talking in chipmunk style is not understandable - but my bad singing dosnt sound too stupid. Well, yes it does - but it sort of goes with the whole idea.

You can see a sped up version here:

The music isnt too bad - and the animation is smoother too.

Hmm, this will obviously take some time! I've heard that this sort of animation can take the longest time. You will find that people who do this professionally with clay will only be able to do about 3 seconds of footage per day or something like that. It may actually be a week, I'm not sure...

Either way, it is crazy. But it shouldn't take you quite that long, I hope! You might like to find some better audio than that. And maybe consider getting some friends or work colleagues to talk for you . That way its not just your voice, and will be much better...

But if comedy is what you are aiming for, I suggest going for the sped up version.

And enjoy this. Its not every day that you get M$ to eat out of your hand, so to speak! (And are you sure that a single little Xbox is worth it for the work you are doing, considering from that email that it looks like your clip (I suggest your COPYRIGHTED clip) will be advertising for M$ worldwide! That is pretty big stuff, are they paying you enough? This is totally your call, not mine, by the way! And if you have already agreed to it, you could be in trouble to negotiate further... I wouldn't try it if I were you.

I have heard the commentary and I think that it will work well. Yes, I agree Turkeybrain, he should retain the rights to his clip, wouldn't want to hand it over to Microsoft, for so little.
