Port Macquarie is awesome!
This second trip was just as good as the first - and in many ways it was more relaxing.The weather was sunny and not too hot - perfect if you ask me. The locals were all complaining about how cold it was - but it suited me down to the ground.
But alas - all good things must come to an end - and it’s almost time to head to the airport for the slow trip back to Tassie (only three hours in the air - but a lot of waiting for flights in airports.
Now for some of the more typical holidays snaps (for me at least).
This guy at Wauchope (where we went to church) has a collection of at least six 40 series Landcruisers! That’s the same model as Milo, for those who don’t know.
They might not be Nissans - but it’s still awesome to see so many in the one place.
If only that ugly white ute wasn’t there to spoil the lineup...
Port Macquarie is my sort of place - they have both an ARB and a TJM shop!
Our hire car. We ordered a Ford - and got a Holden. Doh! At least it’s better than walking - marginally.

One of the many hot-rods we saw. We managed to accidentally arrive in time for a festival called WinterSun which combines Hot Rods, classic cars, and old-school rock and roll.
Ok - so I prefer my cars to have raised suspension, not lowered, but I can appreciate why some people like Hot Rods.
Yep - I can see the appeal of cruising down the road in one of these.
Plus - there were Mustangs! Mum was in heaven.
And just to prove I can take photos of more than just cars - here is a shot of Port Macquarie from a lot further up the coast, at a place called Crescent Heads.
And although I don’t have any photos worth posting (my phone makes a lousy camera) I should point out that I ordered "chilli bugs" at the restaurant last night. And they were very nice tasting bugs too!
So the big question is - will we be back again next year?

In case anyone is wondering where I've been slacking off to lately - I'm in Port Macquarie in NSW enjoying the winter sunshine.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the cool of winter - but it's not hot up here either, so it's fine. It's actually very nice. Plus, any chance to just relax for a week is worth grabbing.
The only problem is that my G60s are still in Tassie, and I'm missing them.

The G60 Shuffle - part 2jawaproSun 29/05/2011 10:26 PM
Wow - I am now a 5 car family! What a way to spend my birthday weekend!
On the way back last time with the G60 ute (see two posts down), we stopped to check out some other G60s I’d seen advertised on Gumtree. Turns out they are at a farm which seems to spend more time as a vehicle graveyard than a farm. Maybe he's growing a crop of rust.
Well - after thinking about it for a while, we decided to head back down to pick up not one, but two more G60s! Let the shuffle begin again!
The first is a sweet looking mid-wheelbase wagon. She used to be red, but now appears more pink.
She may have dolphins on the door - but I always preferred the wagons to the utes, so this was more what I’d wanted. If I can only restore one, it would be this one.
Unlike the other trip, neither of these G60s actually run though. At least not yet... The wagon had working brakes though, so was able to run down the hill on it's own. The other needed some help from a tractor.
Next up is a sad old ute. Poor old girl. But while she may look like she’s lost an argument with a gumtree, some of the panels are better than my other ute, so she’s probably going to be a parts wagon.
This time it was a one-way shuffle, but a double-haul. Oscar the Pajero pulled the wagon, while the mighty Maverick once again lugged a G60 ute up the midlands.
My G60 collection! Currently stored at my parent’s place, until I get my shed built or they get sick of them - whichever comes first.
I think three should do me for now. At least until my bank account recovers anyway...

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is out!
My sister and I went along to a showing on opening night. I even took a litte Lego Jack Sparrow along for the ride to watch himself.
And finally - the cinema is offering 2D showings of 3D movies. We went to a 2D showing - mainly because the time suited us better, but it's also cheaper, and I don't actually like 3D much.
Now, I've heard good and bad reports about the new movie - but I actually really enjoyed it.
Now, why is all the rum gone, and why is the Pearl in the bottle where the rum should be?

Time to do the Statewide Shuffle!
Ok - so Turkey and I are geeks. We’re into our computers and technology - but both of us want old-school 4x4s.
If it’s simple enough, it should be reliable, and there’s a good chance it can be fixed when it goes wrong. Keep computers and stuff out of the bush! Plus - the classic 4x4s just look awesome.
And we found some - within a week or two of each other.
We’re pretty useless when it comes to geography though. Turkey really wanted an old-school Landrover with the headlights in the centre (series 1 and early series 2) and he wanted a long wheelbase Troopy. Not common - especially not in Tassie. We found one though - but it was in Launceston (he’s from Hobart).
Myself, I wanted an old Nissan. I found one too - but it’s half an hour east of Hobart.
Wouldn’t that be right! The cars were at opposite ends of the state - and the wrong ends!
Anyway - on Saturday Dad and the mighty Maverick volunteered to help us both out. So thus began the shuffle.
First up it was time to brave the locals and head to Ravenswood in Launceston to collect Turkey’s Landy. It’s a 1966 model (I think) and is pure awesome. Anything that comes with a crank handle is awesome in my book.
Apart from having the world’s worst camo paint job, it looks awesome too. It’s missing a window or two, but has an escape/shooting hatch in the roof and just oozes personality.
So we loaded the Landy onto the trailer - and headed southward.
A lot of people were staring as they drove past - and a guy in a Defender rocked up to say G’day when we stopped for a drink. Certainly some interest in the old girl.
We got it to Turkey’s place in Hobart, and he hid it behind the shed so his Mum can’t see it.
Next up it was my turn.
My Nissan G60 Patrol is an orange tray-back from 1979, and it weighs quite a bit more than the Landy - so the trip north was somewhat slower. Like the Landy, the Patrol runs and drives, but isn’t registered or up to the trip under it’s own steam yet - so it was back on the trailer.
The Maverick sure got a workout today!
Not a bad looking bus!
But what I really wanted with a wagon version - not a trayback.
Found one! In the paddock next door from my G60. The farmer came and took us for a tour through the paddock to look at it (during which I broke his fence - whoops!). It’s very rough, and engine is in the barn next door - but it’s the style I was after.
On the way north we found another one - it’s in better nick and has me extremely tempted. Sadly it’s still south of Oatlands.
So my ute may be safely at my parents place, but I’m not sure the shuffle is over yet...
